Today marks one year for me at the YMCA! Many changes have taken place throughout 2009 and with 2010 comes many more. The past year has been filled with so many ups and downs and the things I have learned will be lessons that will stay with me for a lifetime.
I came on as Executive Director last year with the passion and enthusiasm to make a difference, but the biggest lesson I have learned is that the Lord must guide us towards the changes that need to be made. I will happily become an instrument in the plan He has designed for us. Though sometimes I throw my hands up in defeat, I can’t help but realize that it is Him that keeps the YMCA open and that we owe Him all the credit for that.
I have always lived my life in a way that I thought was glorifying the Lord, but recently I realized that my faith was lacking. I have walked a straight line, lived my life as safe as possible, and have been too afraid to put myself out there and take a leap of faith in order to see what ministry the Lord has planned for me. As much as I would love to go back to that safe life I had been living up until last year, I finally took that leap of faith and the Lord has changed my life immensely. Even if I fail miserably it will be a triumph for me to say, “At least I tried.” So here’s to another year and continuing to leap with faith!
When I went to Azusa Pacific University I loved when Francis Chan would come to speak to us. Even when I left APU I drove back on the days I knew he would be there, just to hear him speak. This is the sermon that inspired me to take a leap. I truly hope it will do the same for you!
Sincerely,
Joslynn Skelton
Executive Director
